Baked Apples on the Grill

My husband just recently got us a new grill and I have been trying all kinds of fun things including desserts. This is one we all enjoyed and it is not high in fat or calories.

Ingredients:
4 medium sized apples (brae burns, granny smith, gala work the best for me)
4 tsp brown sugar
4 tsp butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 TBSP raisins

Peel and core the apples but leave them whole. Mix together the butter, brown sugar, raisins and spices. Put each apple in its own large piece of foil ( large enough to cover the whole apple). Work the butter mixture down the cored out center of the apple. Wrap each apple in the foil and then wrap in another piece of foil. You can put them right in the coals if you have a charcoal grill or campfire. For a gas grill, just place on the grill and close. It takes about 15 minutes depending on the size of the apple. With an oven mitt on, you can also give it a squeeze and feel if it is soft. Carefully unwrap and place apple in a bowl. There will be a lot of juice at the bottom, be careful, it is better to open over a dish. It is very hot. This goes perfectly with vanilla ice milk and we like to sprinkle chopped nuts on top to finish. I hope you enjoy it.

Have a great weekend.
